Fall Friday in The Humble Bungalow...

Meow!
Isn't this a bodacious looking feline?
The sculpture sits in front of the wool shop Boutique de Laine in Oak Bay.
(I am remiss in not making note of the artist)

I am close to finishing the Church Mouse poncho that I started early in the year.

My knitting project was stalled when I developed a frozen shoulder
which after months is in the thawing stage.
I am so grateful as I have not been very stoic with the chronic pain.

As I am able to knit again...
and the cooler weather inspires knitters.

I have joined a local knitting club.
We meet once a month at a local cafe and drink tea, chat and knit.
A wonderful group of women who gather to share their projects,
help each other with knitting techniques and show off our finished items.

My next project...
which looks like a simple pattern by Church Mouse.
One that can be worn as a scarf or a shoulder warmer.

It is time to get out the sweaters and woolly scarves and socks.
Fall is bringing with it some cool and foggy days.

The light is changing...
foliage is taking on a new patina...

the leaves are rusting...

roses are wilting...

Spiders are coming out to play...
eek!
it is time to cocoon inside.

Our Humble Bungalow interior is dark with all the wood beams and wainscotting
we need to turn on many lights during the daytime.
Task lights are crucial to illuminate areas in which we read or knit.

~ Pepper ~
sits on the arm of the Morris Chair and blocks the light!
Both cats like to sit close when I read or knit, they are great companions.
I need to hide my yarn and knitting bag as they think it is a toy!

Hope that you have a great weekend.
Thank you for popping by the Humble Bungalow Blog.

Fall is so beautiful in your area! I've never been a knitter. I have developed quite an interest in loom weaving though. Nice that you've found a group to share with!

Your cats are so cute! Mine's being a little monster right now, as we've had to close the deck at last - the outrage on his face! Priceless!

Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos, I enjoy them and check daily for new posts.
I would love to learn to knit and be part of a group of knitters. Too bad I don't live close by. It looks like a relaxing activity on a cold winter night.

What a fun blog! I just found you after you left a comment on Stephen Andrews' blog. Isn't he a RIOT? Anyway, I am your newest follower. I will put you on my sidebar as I read blogs from there.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend- Hugs- Diana

Breathtaking fall photos. I loved seeing them.

Don't worry about not being stoic with your frozen shoulder. I've been there and was not stoic either. It was some of the most severe pain I have ever felt. Sometimes everything went black and I saw stars--that's how painful frozen shoulder can be. I am so glad to hear that yours is on the upswing now.

I just heard that Conde Nast ranked our city as number 7 in all the world...can you believe that?
I have not learned how to weave but the ladies in the knitting group are quite fine...you would be embraced in our group Stephen!
Thank you

Both our cats are misbehaving....it might be the weather.
I have had to hide my knitting!

Oh I feel like such a failure...frozen shoulder should not be a deal breaker.
My surgeon was totally on...she knew everything that I was dealing with and was so proactive....my arm creaks but she says tat is a good thing.
Picking up my knitting is such a gift!

Thank you Lisa! Hope Fall in your neighbourhood is colourful!

Everything is starting to look mellow for Autumn in your beautiful pictures. A knitting group is probably similar in tone to my sewing group - a wonderful bond between women, and we ride through various family highs and lows, supporting each other all the way. Very special. Sorry to hear about your frozen shoulder and I do hope all will be well from now on.

It has been my experience that in a group of women who meet regularly, relationships deepen and we do feel safe and are willing to share the ups and downs of our lives. I suppose those quilting groups in pioneer times were not that dissimilar to your sewing group and my knitting group.
Hope you have a lovely weekend!

I have something akin to a frozen shoulder right now, have had it for a couple of months. Yes, painful!!! Finding it difficult to dry my hair and put on and take off clothes, all the things we do without thinking usually ...

That cat sculpture is ... well, different! A bit like a Henry Moore but not quite. But love all those wonderful plants changing colour.
My mother tried to teach me to knit ... I was (and am) hopeless! I can't even bear the feel of the yarn in my fingers, either, it makes me cringe.

So glad that you are knitting again. I belong to a craft group that meets twice monthly and half of the group are knitters. I cast on a cardigan last night that I want to take to Japan on Boxing Day, better hurry.

I love to knit but it is always so hot here that I seldom can wear a sweater. The very light and open weave of your new project looks interesting and wouldn't be too hot. It is very pretty.

You'll love that poncho. Perfect for keeping the chill at bay. I made it several years ago and have worn it a lot!!

Leslie..reading your blog almost makes me homesick. We really are lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world.....but we're not ready to return home yet.

I found a heart shaped rock for your collection....a small piece of France for you.

Autumn has well and truly arrived here in Northern England, the leaves are turning beautiful colours and there is a definite chill in the air, in fact today it is real sweater day! Your photos are lovely as ever.

I quite like the sculpture...bodacious seems like the right word to describe it.
Are you allergic to wool by any chance? That might account for not liking the yarn in your hands.

Japan sounds like a great destination!
Good luck with your cardigan...you have a goal so you should be able to make it in time.

The new project would work as a shrug over a summer dress or as you say in the California climate.

It is a nice weight to wear to run errands and in the house on a cooler day. Cannot wait to finish it, but I need help with the Kitchener stitch that melds with the mattress stitch...the ladies at the group should be able to help me

Oh Ali...I am sorry to hear that you are feeling homesick.
France has such charm and Provence has such a magical sound to it...I have been reading all about the villages and find that they sound enchanting...
You found a heart rock in France? Amazing! How lovely!
Please send me an email when you get back so we can arrange a meet up.

It is chilly here too...the beauty of the autumnal leaves and the trees make walking so rich and scenic.
Enjoy your week!
